From challenge to exclusive wedding cakes: the story of Cake 5 Exclusive Cakes

Since 2014, we, Pim and Claudia, have been working full-time creating “edible art,” as many customers call our work.

Cake 5 Exclusive Cakes actually started from a spontaneous challenge – and that's a story worth sharing!

It all started with a birthday cake Claudia made for our son. Beautiful to look at, but the taste... Pim had other ideas. When Claudia challenged him to do better himself, Pim didn't let that stop him. He immediately immersed himself in the world of pastry and took the pastry course with none other than Robèrt van Beckhoven in Oisterwijk.

What started as a hobby at the kitchen table quickly grew into something bigger. The first orders poured in, and soon our home kitchen became too small. Since January 2014, we've been working full-time as Team Cake 5 Exclusive Cakes, creating exclusive, custom-made wedding cakes and luxury pastries.

Training courses

Before officially launching Cake 5 Exclusive Cakes, we completed the necessary training. For inspiration, we visited Carlos Bakery in New York and took a workshop together. Claudia then completed English (Wilton) and American (PME) training courses and various workshops in professional cake decorating, while Pim learned the tricks of the trade from master pastry chef Robèrt van Beckhoven and The Bakery Institute in Zaandam, among others. Pim is the point of contact for our customers and suppliers at Cake 5 Exclusive Cakes and ensures that all cakes and pastries are baked and filled. He also maintains contact with our partners and ensures that the wedding cakes are delivered to the location using our refrigerated transport service. Since 2020, he has also been an independent wedding officiant, with our CakeBABS concept. Claudia is responsible for the creative side, such as creating the designs, assembling and decorating the cakes, and designing our website and social media.

Birthday cake for King Willem Alexander

We are honored to have created the birthday cake for Our Royal Highness Willem-Alexander to celebrate his 50th birthday and his visit to Tilburg on King's Day 2017. After the official ceremony, we had the honor of celebrating this special occasion with the Royal Family and other guests from the municipality of Tilburg at a secret location. King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima admired the cake and then cut and ate the first pieces. This day and the meeting with our royal couple were very special and, for us, truly the icing on the cake!
